Kim Hovell is primarily known for her oyster paintings and we were inspired to create an editorial around her artwork for two reasons: we share Kim’s deep personal connection to the Chesapeake and we love how her series utilizes a fairly vibrant color palette while still conveying a sense of tranquility.
While searching for a venue, we couldn’t think of a better place to combine classic eastern shore beauty with a feeling of tranquility than the Inn at Perry Cabin. We wanted to showcase its classic, effortless elegance. We pulled directly from Kim’s work and the eastern shore to create a palette of blues, whites, and champagne.”
For our tablescape, Kim custom made a hand-painted table runner featuring her oyster paintings. We used understated but beautiful oyster-grey table linens, simple white china, and gold and wood flatware all to play off the organic and coastal-inspired artwork. Our florals were a great illustration of mixing the organic elements of the artwork and the classical beauty of the venue – they combined classic white hydrangeas with loose organic blue florals and green vines.
